Vito Schnabel Gallery, VMS
Managing Director

Vito Schnabel is an art dealer and curator of contemporary art based in New York, NY. Schnabel established VMS in 2003 and is known for his innovative gallery model where he eschews a permanent gallery space and matches artists with unique exhibition settings. Schnabel has presented exhibitions in varied locations such as Galerie Bruno Bischofberger in Zurich Switzerland; a Long Island cornfield; a cloistered garden in Venice, Italy during the Venice Biennale; and an unused wing of a historic post office building on 32nd street Manhattan, now called The Future Moynihan Station.

VMS works with artists who exhibit work both in the United States and internationally. VMS produces various exhibitions, events, and catalogues throughout the year in addition to curating, consulting and art advising. As Managing Director at VMS, Imamura oversaw all aspects of the business’ operations, projects and finances.

Last year, the company moved into a permanent gallery and office space in the West Village where Imamura designed and managed the renovation of an open-layout 2,000 sq ft retail space into a 1,000 sq ft boutique gallery and 4-room office.

VMS today, presents a full program of exhibitions in it’s permanent gallery while continuing to present exhibitions in unique spaces and collaborate with arts institutions.
