This piece is part of my ongoing Heads series—resin self-portraits that explore the inner worlds we carry and the different personas we embody over time. Each head captures a distinct emotional state or identity I’ve lived through. Portal Head marks a moment of creative awakening and personal transformation.
It was made during the start of a new chapter—when we moved into our first storefront and full studio space in the Lower East Side for GLO Studio. We had just been invited to build an immersive installation at Bergdorf Goodman. It felt like something cracked open—like I had entered a new version of myself, one I had been working toward for years.
The blue pearl seen inside the head references the blue pearl (Bindu) from Vedic meditation—thought to be a portal to the higher self, the soul’s presence made visible. That idea resonated deeply with how I felt at the time: connected, aligned, electric.
There’s also something universal in the way women often mark big changes by changing their hair. This was that moment for me. Portal Head holds the charge of becoming—of stepping through something invisible and coming out transformed.
